Fact Sheet, CO2 storage, GEUS Description: Fact sheet CO2 storage. Emission to the atmosphere of greenhouse gases mainly resulting from combustion of fossil fuels is considered a major environmental problem. If not resolved it could impose severe limitations on the potential for growth in developing countries and on maintaining of high standards of living in industrialised countries. UN Climate Conventions in Rio 1992 Kyoto 1997 and Buenos Aires 1998 commit the industrialised countries to reduce rather dramatically emissions of greenhouse gases.

Fact Sheet, Sequence Stratigraphy, GEUS Description: Fact sheet Sequence Stratigraphy. Sequence stratigraphy integrates seismic and log-stratigraphy biostratigraphy sedimentology and geochemistry to tackle the geological problems encountered in these fields. In hydrocarbon exploration a regional sequence stratigraphic framework helps the geologist to predict the distribution of reservoirs source rocks and seals. This leads to improved prospectivity in both mature and immature areas.
Fact Sheet, Organic Petrography, GEUS Description: Fact sheet Organic Petrography. The Laboratory for Organic Geochemistry and Petrography Department of Reservoir Geology hosts a high standard optical unit dedicated to petrographic studies of organic matter in sedimentary rocks and coals.
Fact Sheet, Core Laboratory, Geological Survey of Denmark and Gr Description: Fact sheet Core Laboratory. GEUS Core Laboratory offers a broad range of core analysis services to the industry. We have 20 years of experience working with both sandstone and soft chalk including North Sea oil and gas fields Scandinavian hydrothermal reservoirs and Baltic reservoir rocks. Further the laboratory is experienced with various analysis on unconsolidated rocks and soils and has adapted petroleum petrophysical laboratory techniques to a range of new areas including rock mechanics ceramics and concrete and water and soil pollution.

Review of Greenland Activities 1997 Description: The second volume of Review of Greenland activities. Pdf-download of entire bulletin and individual articles. The bulletin contains 24 articles introduced by the Director’s review for 1997 followed by a list of publications on Greenland issued in the Survey’s own series and those scientific papers written by its staff published in international outlets.
Annual Report 2002 - GEUS Description: Read the Annual Report - can also be downloaded in pdf-format. The Annual Report 2002 primarily focuses on GEUS' activities and results of immediate social relevance. Together with the newest international research GEUS' own research projects form the basis of the consultancy services provided primarily to the Danish Ministry of the Environment the Danish Ministry of Economic and Business Affairs and The Greenland Home Rule but also to a number of other ministries local authorities and the corporate sector.

Excursion, May 2001. Storm-dominated marine and lagoonal depositional systems, Denmark. GEUS Description: The succession that crops out in the Lillebælt and Vejle Fjord area shows exceptionally detailed sedimentary structures and demonstrates clearly the facies changes within a shallow marine and barrier depositional environment.
Departments, (GEUS) Description: Organisation diagramme with links to the 9 scientific departments and three administrative and supporting units.
APPLIED MINERALOGY Description: The aim of the study is to develop a thorough understanding of the sedimentary link between the Faroese area and Greenland. Our approach is a modern multianalysis provenance study. In the course of the study new techniques of general interest to hydrocarbon exploration are being further developed tested and refined. The results of the study will clarify the source nature and potential of reservoir rocks in the Faroese area and help to construct a stratigraphy of the pre-basaltic rocks.

Fact Sheet (Archive), Micromodels and Network Theory Description: Outdated Fact sheet Micromodels and Network Theory. Micromodels are used to study the flow of oil water and gas in porous media. Both fluid configurations and dynamic behaviour can be studied. The micromodels are etched in a silicon wafer using reactive ion etching RIE. RIE makes it possible to create pores with a rectangular pore shape. A Pyrex glass plate is chemically bonded on top of the etched structure. The micromodels consist 45000 connected pores. The width of the pores ranges from 8 to 40 microns. The micromodel is connected to an inlet chamber where oil water or gas can be injected.
Fact Sheet, Core Imaging Techniques, GEUS Description: Fact sheet Core Imaging Techniques. GEUS has access to state-of-the-art X-ray CT and NMR scanners. The imaging capabilities of these instruments combined with a range of Core Analysis techniques are used for determination of petrophysical parameters on core samples e.g. porosity distributions fluid saturation distributions capillary pressure s and relative permeability s. Imaging may be performed during flooding experiments in custom made core holders.
